VIP Camp Party 2026

We had the final day party at VIP camp and it was a fun one. Plenty of bowling and Mom and Dad said that they are going to bowl the next time. Lunch was served and it was pizza and french fries along with cookies and drinks. James got a small photo album with pictures of their adventures which we have to scan in and add later.

James had a blast and got to see his friends one last time before moving on with summer. James plans on tutoring one of the campers at their parents request so maybe some of this college education is starting to pay off.

James did not miss a day of class or a day of camp, he managed his time very well!

Mackinaw 2026

After we were finished at Saulte Ste Marie we spent a night at the Holiday Inn at Mackinaw City. If you watch certain news stations they show a live feed of the Mackinaw bridge, that feed is from the hotel we stayed at.

The weather was perfect and the bridge looked awesome as usual. We visited the shops at Mackinaw Crossing and was surprised that the haunted house was not open (it was late on a Friday, if its not open then when is it open).

The next day we enjoyed a nice breakfast at the hotel and head back home with a quick stop at Sea Shell City. Continue reading “Mackinaw 2026”

Saulte Ste Marie 2026

Dad had business in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan which gave the family a chance to visit one of their favorite tourist places, the Soo Locks of Michigan. James and Mom got to go on the boat tour and had a great time, the majority of the pictures are from that boat tour.

Afterwards Mom and James met up with Dad and we went shopping on the “strip”. Unfortunately they put up parking meters and Dad didn’t have much change so we had to hurry our shopping spree a little more than normal, however finding a parking spot was not a big deal. 4th of July 250 Year Celebration

It was alot easier back in 1976 when all we had to say was bicentennial, now, 50 years later, its called semiquincentennial. Looking back 50 years ago neither Mom or Dad could remember exactly what they did, they remember the bicentennial minutes on tv and events leading up to it, but on the bicentennial itself neither could remember what they did.

This year we did like every other 4th of July, grilled out and watched the fireworks outside until the bug spray ran out. Probably the same thing we did 50 years ago.

Still it was a fun day and we enjoyed the events leading up to it. Happy 250th Birthday America. Continue reading “4th of July 250 Year Celebration”

2026 Mothers Day

The end of an incredibly busy week (which included a Tiger Game, our annual optical exams, two graduations) climaxed with a Mothers day celebration on Sunday.

The day began with Mom getting a few gifts (including a bouquet of flowers a day earlier), then James and Mom took their traditional picture in front of the house.

A trip to Moms favorite restaurant was next, James paid for the meal. Upon returning home Mom watched her races then opened more gifts after the race.

A great day was had by all.

2026 James Graduating With Masters Degree

2026 James Graduates With A Masters Degree

James had two graduations he was in this day. The first was at 9am and was for a Non Profit Certificate at Wayne State. The second was at 5pm for his Masters Degree at the Mike Ilitch School of Business.

The second ceremony ran a little late but we still made it to Bubba’s for dinner (James favorite restaurant). Later James got his graduation gifts and everyone had a great time.

Reminder, if anyone goes to one of these graduations, purses are basically not allowed over a certain size and we had to go back to the car and store it there.

2026 Comerica Fireworks Finale

2026 Tiger Game and Fireworks

It was a rainy day but an exciting game as the Tigers came back from a 4-0 deficit to tie, but the bullpen gave up the winning run.

The biggest roar from the crowd came when they flashed the Pistons had just taken the lead on the Orlando Magic after being down by over 20.

After the game, their was a great fireworks show which looked great with the new skyscraper in the background.

Thanks to Nick and his Mom for the great seats, right above the Tigers dugout.

2026 Valentines Day

Big surprise when the family woke up to a Valentines Day decorated kitchen table. Plenty of everything for everyone and we ended up snacking on candy for two weeks.

Not all the gifts were candy and flowers, if you zoom in on the picture you will see some Phantom of the Opera gifts (see previous post) including the sequel to the original musical which takes place in New York at Coney Island, or should I say, under Coney Island.

Weather in Michigan in February is kind of rough so we did not have any road trips this time, but we did enjoy the Phantom sequel.
